About
Hello. My name is Amara. I am interested in travel, languages and personal projects with no goal except completion. I also collect cameras, occasionally using them to take bad pictures, which you can find here.
Recently
I’ve just completed a 6-month solo backpacking trip through Europe and South America during which I climbed an active volcano, hitchiked, sang and danced in front of a crowd in a Peña, made my own bookmark using an old press, hiked off-trail in the pouring rain, accidentally attended a presidential address, got a sardine can camera, raced with strangers in the largest salt flat in the world and went to church in a different city (and language) every Sunday.
Currently
I am in the second-half of my “year off” working on a few mini-projects with no goal except completion.
Re-reading
Some essays I’m re-reading are:
- Bookbear Express’ Effort
- Trung Phan’s Sculpting Ourselves
- Chris Arnades’s Why I Walk which I pair with The Marginalian’s The Spirit of Sauntering
- Paul Graham’s A Project of One’s Own
- William Deresiewicz’s Solitude and Leadership
- Alexey Guzey’s Questions which is not an essay but a great starting point for one
